I’ve been using my Hallman Range for about nine months now, and it is the number one thing I get the most questions about on my Instagram page. I have the 48″ Hallman Range in white with chrome accessories. Now that I’ve had plenty of time to use it and get comfortable cooking on it, I thought I would do a complete review with pros, cons, tips & tricks. Be sure to grab your free, downloadable cheat sheet at the end of this post!

Hallman Range Review

There is so much to love about this range, so bear with me on this list!
For starters, it’s simply a beautiful statement piece to have in your kitchen. The photos just don’t do it justice! It really is such a gorgeous appliance. This range is certainly an investment, but it is priced very competitively when compared to other high-end brands like Viking and Thermador. One of the most unique features of this range is that it’s dual fuel. So that means that the stove top operates on gas and the oven is electric. The best of both worlds!

Gas Cooktop

Let’s talk a little bit about the cooktop. I have the 48″ and it comes with six burners plus the flat top griddle and I love that there are several different burner sizes to choose from. The griddle pan is a great bonus! I use it to cook pancakes, heat up tortillas, grilled cheese, quesadillas…you get the idea. You can also remove the griddle pan and use the large, oval burner if that works better for you.

Oven

Learning Curves When I first started using my Hallman range, the oven definitely took some getting used to. It does not function like a traditional American-made appliance, so there is a learning curve. All of the knobs are manual instead of digital which contributes to the long lifespan of these ranges. There are nine settings to choose from so you can cook very precisely. For example, you can use convection cooking to cook and brown a casserole in way less time than a traditional oven. There is also a pizza setting, broil, etc. Each of the nine functions are listed out in the manual as well as my cheat sheet so keep close by for reference.

Cleaning While this is not a self-cleaning oven like many traditional ovens, the way it is made makes for easy cleanup. One of the things I love about the oven is that there are no baking coils on the bottom. This makes clean up so dang easy. Any food or crumbs that fall can be wiped right up. Same goes for the inside of the oven door. It is a solid, flat piece of glass that cleans up in a jiff and also detaches for deep cleaning. Hallman does sell self-cleaning panels separately if that’s something important to you.

Minor Setbacks

While I love pretty much everything about this range, there are a few things I tell people who want a completely honest opinion about it. Here goes!

Slow Preheat It takes longer to preheat than a traditional oven. For higher baking temps, there is a speed setting to make this process go a little faster, however.

Warming Drawer The warming drawer on the Hallman range doesn’t actually warm up on its own. It gets warm when the oven is running, but you can’t actually set a temperature to it. Not a huge deal, but worth noting.

Sight Unseen Purchase These ranges are not sold in-store anywhere (that I know of) so you must purchase them sight unseen. That can be very nerve-racking for such an expensive purchase!

Small Oven The 40″ and 48″ range comes with two ovens, one large and one small. The only downside to this is the small oven is so tiny, pretty much the only pan I can fit in it is a loaf pan. However! You can use the small oven to do the rotisserie spit, which is a really cool feature. Feel free to watch me do that for the first time on my Instagram page. I learned a lot!

Purchasing

Where to Buy There are a few vendors that you can purchase the Hallman range from. We chose Overstock.com and here’s why…when you sign up for their email list and their “Club O” you get 15% off your first purchase AND 5% back in store credit on every purchase. When you’re talking about a $4,000-6,000 purchase, that’s a lot of money!

Tip: Overstock will reward you with a little store credit for leaving reviews on the items you purchase as well.

Lead Time The next thing is lead time. The turnaround time is lengthy since these are made in Italy… It can take anywhere from 12-16 weeks to receive after ordering, so plan accordingly! If memory serves, we received ours 13 weeks after ordering.

Tip: When your Hallman is ready to be shipped to you, they will call to set up delivery. If you are not ready for it, have them hold it in their warehouse. The reason for this is that the 1-Year manufacturer warranty starts when you receive it, not when it is installed.

Specifications One of the most important things to pay attention to when you are ordering, is the type of gas you will be using for your oven. Natural gas or liquid propane? The plumbing connections will be different for each, so choose accordingly. Also, color! This range comes in eight stunning colors and three options for the knobs: chrome, brass & oil-rubbed bronze. And did you know they also offer custom colors? It’s an additional cost, but you could really get creative with your selection. Contact Hallman directly for more information.

Installation

When your Hallman has arrived and you are ready for installation, make sure it is done by a professional, certified plumber. This is important because that is how Hallman validates your warranty. Also, be sure to go ahead and ask your plumber for a “Proof of Professional Installation.” Hallman will ask for this in the event that you need to have repair work done during the warranty period.

Trick! Once your range is installed, your oven may not turn on automatically. If this happens, go to the set of buttons on the top left corner of your oven and press and hold the 2nd & 3rd button down for 10-15 seconds. It will fire right up!

Frequently Asked Questions

What paint color did you use on your cabinets and does it match the white range?

Our cabinets are painted Sherwin Williams Pure White.
It is not an exact match, but it goes with the oven very well.

What is the most challenging about it?

Definitely getting used to all the cook settings on the oven. There are 9 to choose from!

What vent hood did you purchase to accommodate the 48″ range?
How is cleaning the cooktop?

Easy! The grates and gas covers pop right off and then you can just wipe everything down.

Do you find it easy to convert baking recipes to convection?

I’m still getting used to it. I use it more for roasting than baking. Convection gives a crispy outside and creamy inside. It’s so awesome!

Did you have to get it calibrated at the time of install?

Absolutely. Our plumber did not do it initially, and the baking temps were way off. They came back, calibrated it, and now it works perfectly.

That’s a wrap! If you have any other questions, please leave a comment below and I will get it answered for you.
